Canada Company Formation Facts
Figures on this page are indicative and change often. Government fees, taxes and timelines are confirmed in your written quote after a free consultation. Company formation does not by itself grant residence or citizenship; where a residence route exists we say so and explain its conditions.
A Trusted Base in North America
- Online federal or provincial incorporation, usually within days
- A G7 economy with strong rule of law and a respected business address
- No minimum share capital
- Ontario and British Columbia have no Canadian-resident director rule, so non-residents can incorporate there
- A natural base for selling to both Canadian and US customers
Who It Suits
Founders selling into Canada and the US, IT and consulting firms, and investors who want a North American company with a strong reputation.

Moving to Canada With Your Company
Residence route: visa neededA Canadian company does not by itself give you the right to live or work in Canada. Owners usually look at work permits linked to the business, provincial nominee entrepreneur streams, or federal business immigration programmes, which change often.
| Route | Who it suits | Family can join |
|---|---|---|
| Work permit linked to your business | Owners and key staff moving to run or work in the Canadian company | Yes |
| Provincial Nominee entrepreneur streams | Entrepreneurs who invest in and actively manage a business in a province | Yes |
| Federal business programmes | Founders with an innovative business backed by a designated organisation (availability changes) | Yes |
Visa rules change often. We check your eligibility before you pay any government fee, and quote visa work separately from company formation.

Canada Company Formation Questions
Do I need to live in Canada to own a Canadian company?
No. Non-residents can own a Canadian corporation. Federal companies need at least 25% of directors to be resident Canadians, but Ontario and British Columbia companies have no such rule, so most non-resident founders incorporate there.
Federal or provincial incorporation: which is better?
Federal incorporation protects your company name across Canada. Provincial incorporation is simpler and, in Ontario and British Columbia, has no residency rule for directors. We recommend one based on where you will trade.
How much tax will my Canadian company pay?
Corporate tax combines a 15% federal rate with provincial tax, about 26.5% in total in Ontario. The lower small-business rate generally applies only to Canadian-controlled companies, so foreign-owned companies usually pay the general rate.
What does the government charge to incorporate?
Federal online incorporation costs CAD 200 with Corporations Canada. Provincial fees vary, around CAD 300 in Ontario and CAD 350 in British Columbia, plus the name search. Our service fee is quoted separately.
