From 3 November 2026, an Express Entry high-wage job offer can add up to 100 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, and candidates no longer need an LMIA to count the offer, according to CIC News. The change reshapes how Canada ranks skilled workers who already hold a job offer.

How the Express Entry high-wage job offer points work

CIC News reports that the new points come under a Labour Market Integration Factor. The maximum is 100 CRS points. The score depends on how high the offered wage sits. Offers at 2x, 1.5x and 1.3x the relevant wage level earn 100, 70 and 50 points respectively.

Canadian work experience also counts. CIC News says it can reach 150 points combined: 70 for a high-wage job plus up to 80 for length of experience. Canada lists 186 high-wage occupations on a page that went live on 16 October. Check it on the IRCC website before you assume your job qualifies.

Why dropping the LMIA matters

Under the old approach, a job offer usually needed a Labour Market Impact Assessment to count. CIC News says Express Entry candidates “will also no longer require LMIAs” to meet the job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs. That removes a step employers often found slow.

A separate rule change matters for people who already hold work permits. IRCC now tells officers not to decide a work permit application until the LMIA decision arrives, CIC News reported on 28 October. The old instructions capped the hold at 90 days.

The pause in invitations

The press release says invitations pause while IRCC recalculates profiles. That can take up to two weeks, per CIC News. Expect a gap in draws after 3 November. Our report on the latest round, draw 453 for transport occupations, shows the scores before the change.

Example: an engineer with a job offer

As an illustration, not a real case: an Indian software engineer in Bengaluru holds a written offer from a Toronto employer. Under the new rules, the offer could add points without the employer first completing an LMIA. The exact gain depends on the wage tier and the engineer’s other factors.
